Smart Signals

We are pleased to offer the new 1:29 Scale line of “Smart Signals” designed and manufactured by Z-Stuff for Trains. These operating signals require no wiring. Each is powered by a 9 volt battery. Built-in circuitry allows the units to accept AC or DC power up to 24 volts, so if you are using DCC, DCS, Train Engineer Revolution or any similar constant voltage track power it would be a simple matter to eliminate the need for the signal battery. Each signal's on-board motion sensor detects a passing train changing the block signal from green to red. Fifteen seconds later the signal LEDs change from red to yellow, and then – after a brief delay - back to green. While on battery operation the signals will enter sleep mode after several minutes of inactivity. This battery protection feature is awakened by the next passing train. Materials are primarily brass. Each version is weatherproof and certified for outdoor use.

The initial three designs will be available around July 21st. Accepting pre-orders now.

• ALL smartSignals have optical detection built right in.
• They operate in any light from total darkness to sunlight
• No need to cut track for isolated sections
• No need to tear up track and mount finicky mechanical detectors, and
• No need to go out and buy an additional sensor for $20 or more
• Semaphore flags are slow motion
• Lights change by fading out and fading in for added realism
• Automatic time delays – 4 sec. from RED to YELLOW and then 3 sec. from YELLOW to GREEN
• Input and output connections for added flexibility
• All signals are scale size – available in O, S and now G gauge
All you do is put them on the layout and supply power. smartsignals do the rest.

Semaphore Upper Quadrant - Photo shows both Upper and Lower Quadrant - Upper Quadrant is pictured on the left.

With metal poles and ladders, these scale signals will look great along your right-of-way. The 3-position flag has a realistic slow motion. The base has optical sensors built-in with a sensitivity adjustment. Just apply power and put them next to the track. These signals do the rest.

When the train is sensed next to the motor moves the signal to the stop condition and shows RED. No power is on the motor in each position. Four (4) seconds after the train passes, the signal changes to caution showing YELLOW. After three (3) more seconds the signal returns to clear showing GREEN.

They have separate inputs and outputs so they can be daisy chained. The down track signal will hold the up track signal on yellow until the down track signal goes off red.
