The powder-coating on each structure is actually a baked-on finish, which resists rust and deterioration. In addition, the buildings, once painted and customized, do not look like they are made of steel – they appear to be some other kind of scratch-built structure, made of the more typical plastic or wood. Most importantly, the buildings are virtually indestructible, withstanding extreme heat and cold without warping, melting or breaking. They are quite heavy as well, and will not blow over, even in heavy winds whipped up by thunderstorms. If you trip on one on your way through the layout, you’ll have to worry about hurting your foot, but not the building!
